National Non-Profit Day: Highlighting HeyMama Non-Profits

On August 17th, we observe National Nonprofit Day. On this day, we recognize the immense effort nonprofits put into making an impact in their communities and across the globe. Today we celebrate the contributions of these nonprofit organizations and the donors, staff, and volunteers that make it all possible.

And there’s a lot to celebrate: Today, there are over 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. alone, according to the National Center for Charitable Statistics. Nonprofit organizations employ 10% of the U.S. workforce and raise over $427 billion each year. The hours worked by non-profit professionals and volunteers, as well as the donations collected, help support a myriad of causes. And while the last two years certainly challenged many nonprofits due to limited resources, we saw them overwhelmingly step up and do even more to help those who are struggling.

At HeyMama, we want to recognize and spotlight our members that are affiliated directly with a nonprofit organization:

Jasmin Castillo - Surdna Foundation

Jasmin Castillo is the Manager at the Office of the President at the Surdna Foundation, an organization that supports social justice reform, healthy environments, inclusive economies, and thriving cultures across the United States.  In her role, Jasmin is responsible for managing the President’s office, including administrative matters related to the Board of Directors. Prior to joining Surdna, Jasmin served as the Donor Relations and Development Operations Manager at the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

Maya Craudereuff - Maya's Hope

Maya Rowencak Crauderueff is the Founder and President of Maya’s Hope, a non-profit dedicated to improving the quality of life of orphaned, impoverished, and special-needs children on a global scale. After being inspired by the orphans in the Philippines, Maya decided to send care packages to many orphanages which eventually led her to Ukraine. She considers herself an international problem solver and enjoys making kids (and adults) smile.

Erin Lepone - Lady Savant Foundation

Erin Lepone is the Founder and President of the Lady Savant Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to “empower the next generation” around the world through projects such as building and funding a middle school in Cambodia and sponsoring an elementary school in Liberia. Originally from California, Erin moved to NYC and then settled into life in Franklin Lakes, NJ with her husband and two kids.

Katarina Manoff - ENGin

Katerina Manoff is the Founder and CEO of ENGin, a rapidly growing nonprofit bringing English fluency and cultural exchange to a generation of Ukrainian youth. ENGin’s free peer-to-peer English language program is transforming foreign language education in Ukraine and revolutionizing virtual volunteering in the US and beyond. Before starting ENGin, Katerina worked for a variety of nonprofit and for-profit educational organizations. She began her career as an investment banker.

REMM is a Christian humanitarian organization based in Romania, with a variety of impact projects that include building low-cost homes for needy Roma families to running a music camp for hundreds of kids.  Additionally, Anca is the co-writer and chef of the Huckle & Goose Cookbook and lifestyle guide.

Join us in celebrating National Nonprofit Day today. Here are 3 quick ways you can do that now:

  1. Elevate the public profile of a nonprofit organization that you believe in. Tag the organization with the hashtag #NationalNonprofitDay on your social media accounts.

  2. Donate. Money goes a long way for many nonprofits and every little bit counts. If you don’t have a nonprofit you support, check out a few listed here or support one of your fellow HeyMama’s organizations listed above.

  3. Give thanks. A simple thank you email or blog post to an organization and/or the volunteers is a great way to observe National Nonprofit Day. If feeling generous, you can always send cookies or pizza their way.

We know that many of our members at HeyMama have an organization and a cause that is near and dear to your hearts. We thank all of our members for the time you give, the dollars you donate, and the support you provide throughout the year to nonprofits that improve our local and global communities. Let us know which nonprofits you are honoring today at Heymama.co.
