National Meditation Month- 3 Meditations for Working Moms

HeyMama_Meditations_For_Working_Moms

May is known for many things— warm weather, beautiful flowers, Mother’s Day, and maybe some additional stress that comes with balancing work, vacations, and summer child care schedules. You may not know that May is also National Meditation Month, but why not get into the spirit of the spring awakening and do something that is good for the mind, heart and soul. Tons of research shows the positive impact of meditation in just a few minutes a day, and simply put, meditation offers a simple solution to the stress of everyday life. A moment for us to be still in the chaos.

The good news is that you don’t have to be an expert. You don’t need any equipment. And you definitely don’t need a lot of time. The key is to find a space —both physical and metaphorical—that works for you! And be honest, how appealing does it sound to sit in a dark closet, shut out the noise, take in a deep breath, and focus on you, even if it’s just for 5 minutes? A few tips to help get you started:

  1. Find Your Space

We weren’t kidding about the closet. Honestly, it can be anywhere where you can own the space—your office, backyard, laundry room (maybe not the laundry room if the piles of clothes will distract you). And try to keep the same area because creating a habit is the most important part.

  2. Put it on the Calendar

Just like we put our kids schedules, work projects, partners’ appointments on the calendar, schedule your meditation. Even if it’s just 5 minutes. If it’s not on the calendar it won’t get done.

  3. Keep It Simple

Remember it’s PRACTICING meditation not PERFECTING it. Whether you already incorporate meditation into your daily routine or you’re just starting out, give yourself the freedom to be perfectly imperfect. Thoughts will come and go. Kids will run into the room. You will have a last minute call pop up. It happens. Just know that meditation is now in your mama toolbox and you can use it however you need in the moment.

  4. Find Meditations That Work For You

Books, Apps, YouTube videos are all out there to help you find your mama peace and relaxation. You may like the voice of one or the rhythm of another. Or you may just like the ease of use. Try one, try them all. Here are a few meditations for moms that you can try to get you started:
