Spring Cleaning Organization Tips + Tricks for Busy Moms

The flowers are blooming and the dust bunnies are stirring- it’s time for spring cleaning! Cleaning with kids can be a challenge, but here are some of our tips for staying sane during spring cleaning and organization:

Start small

We’ve all been there. You decided it was a great time to reorganize your closet but suddenly it’s an hour later and your closet has engulfed your bedroom, living room, potentially kitchen (?) and there’s no end to the project in sight. When it comes to cleaning and organization as a busy mom, make sure to start small and work your way up to larger projects to avoid burnout mid-task.

Work in zones

In the spirit of starting small, determine zones for your home and how often each needs to be cleaned. Think about high traffic areas like the mud room, playroom, hall bathroom, etc. What should be addressed regularly to avoid the dreaded dedicated-weekend-cleaning day? For us, we’ve determined the kitchen and laundry room to be priority zones. With kiddos helping out by making their beds each morning and collecting their laundry, it’s easier to feel on top of new messes. Zone cleaning for moms is a must in our book.

Get the little ones involved

You’re allowed to relax during nap time, too! Don’t hustle to get everything clean while they’re down for the count. Instead, get them involved in daily cleaning tasks and make things fun. Challenge your children to find a certain number of items that don’t belong in a room, or race them while dusting. The less chores feel like, well, a chore, the more often you’ll find helping hands at the ready.

Set a timer

Ah, the ole ten-second-tidy! Whether you’re setting a five minute timer or queuing up your favorite song, dedicate a predetermined amount of time to a mess and allow yourself to walk away after time is up. Some days you’ll find that you only made a small dent, others you’ll realize the task you were procrastinating didn’t take you nearly as long as you thought it would.
