Cultivating Connections: Elizabeth McNevin's Social Media Savvy Journey

As part of our "Motherhood on the Resume" series, we are shining a light on women who share their experiences with motherhood and the pivotal moments in their careers. Today, we spotlight Elizabeth McNevin, whose journey embodies the strength and adaptability of navigating career pivots and pauses amidst the journey of motherhood to find the work dynamic that works for her family..

Elizabeth McNevin's entrepreneurial path began at a crossroads of her personal and professional journey. She spent a decade working in social media marketing for lifestyle brands including Travel Channel, WeddingWire and Weber Shandwick. After facing a company wide layoff days after finding out she was pregnant, she saw an opportunity not just for a career pivot, but to fulfill a long-held dream. The vision became clear quickly: she had nine months to start a business while starting a family. This was the genesis of Sociale Consulting, a boutique agency with a mission to elevate women-owned businesses through strategic social media advertising. With a background in content marketing, her ad strategy heavily focuses on authentic storytelling to elevate brand messaging.

At the heart of Sociale Consulting's success is Elizabeth's unique approach to brand development. Rejecting the impersonal nature of large agencies, she fosters deep, meaningful partnerships with her clients. This commitment to authentic storytelling and staying true to brand ethos has not only endeared her to clients but has also driven remarkable growth for their brands on social media.

Elizabeth's journey wasn't devoid of setbacks. An attempt to scale her business through a membership course for ads strategy ended in failure, despite substantial investment in resources and manpower. This experience, however, was far from a defeat, in fact it led to a huge accomplishment. It was a pivotal learning moment that realigned Elizabeth's focus towards what she loved most - offering personalized, one-on-one support to her clients.

The setback led to a breakthrough. Elizabeth assembled a small, dedicated team, allowing her to serve her clients more robustly without sacrificing the personal touch that had become her hallmark. This shift not only sustained Sociale Consulting's growth but also reinforced the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of failure

After two babies and seven years of running her business, She found a routine that works for her and started to feel less mom guilt and more balance! “I vividly remember the guilt I felt when my first son was 3 months old and I had to work while he played on his mat nearby. I ended up hiring a nanny to support us a few days a week so I could separate work and bonding time.” Her routine now, which involves wrapping up work by 2 pm for school pickups and resuming after bedtime, showcases the creative time management working mothers often employ to fulfill their dual responsibilities. For Elizabeth, success is about achieving her personal goals - delivering exceptional service to her clients while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Her advice for fellow moms in business juggling it all.. "One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned throughout my career, both early on and now, is the importance of networking with people inside AND outside your industry. You never know where it may lead you!

Secondly, don’t be afraid to hire help or delegate. Even if it means hiring a nanny who can watch your child(ren) while you work on occasion! The ability to separate a focus on work and being present at home is a game changer.

Last but not least – prioritize building a support system for yourself. Being a business owner can be isolating, especially if you work alone. Having a support system to lean on will take you further and make the journey more fun! Enter: HeyMama. “
